Getting Foxo'd across the globe

246 posts in this topic

My yearly journeyman career. Starting unemployed, I mostly stick to LLM rules unless I get stuck in the most extreme circumstances (like having no staff and no players).

Jobs One and two

20 days in Ireland: Spent 20 days in charge of Irish First Division side Longford Town. They were terrible and nothing I said worked and I couldn't transfer anyone in so I quit after 5 days. Had to wait half a year, but I was re-hired into the same division by Cockhill Celtic who apparently have no league history and look to be an amateur side. They also have no staff. I guess over the pre-season I will look through the players listed for loan from the Premier Division (will try to get them on trial) and maybe get a few non-amateur players as well. The loan limit is 5, but the board have graciously given me 2.9k p/w.

I would put some club info off Wikipedia here, but hey don't even have a page that I can find, so tough luck. Here's this:

I've never started there, but I had a short time in between Wales and Northern Ireland in this division in one of my previous journeyman careers.

Yeah I saw that but I've still only got amateur players and until I sign a part-timer I'm counting us as amateurs :P

My squad:

Goalkeepers:

Damien Nash

Liam Mailey

Anto Knight

Mailey is the only guy of these three that's getting paid to play; however, he remains the back-up to Nash who has played very well this year.

Defenders:

Ricky Byrne

Danny Murphy

Gus James

Jonathan Tourish

Darren McElroy

Ian O'Connor

Danny Curran

Tony McDaid

So far the three center backs (Tourish, James, McElroy( have played nearly every game, the outside backs rotate as they can't handle playing every game (babies).

Midfielders:

Glen Keane

Bobby Ford

Danny Canning

Eoin Wolfe

Cliff Patterson

Daniel Black

Darren Heffernan

Gerry Mahon

Darren McLaughlin

Ronan Branagan

One of those guys is also my assistant manager. The wide players and guys that can only play AMC haven't played because they don't fit my tactic.

Strikers:

Kieran McGonagle

Lee Bell

Niall Keeney

Only 3 guys, and Keeney keeps getting injured. It's rough, my guys up front are getting tired but I can't do anything until the window opens again and my three new guys show up. I also have another midfielder coming in, all on amateur contracts.

As you can see, my goal is pretty much to just not let anyone score. Here's how it has gone:

The first game was a relegation battle, as was the league game with Avondale. To get 6 points there is huge. In the Salthill game I learned that even at home I need to close everything up. Against Cork it was 0-1 late when I pushed for a goal... and they got one. Basically nothing we can do except try to keep them far away from our goal. We did it perfectly against Finn Harps, we had 0 shots but got a point. Against Wexford we had 1 shot, and got 1 point. So far it is keeping us safe:

Yay Cockhill!

Let's jump ahead to the midway point of the first season at Cockhill:

411a5ddb708187dbe15ea83a73edec95.png

We weren't too bad over this stretch other than losing to a lower division side in the cup. The 0-0 draw with Rockmount was good as they are one of two teams below us (bottom team gets relegated). Our loss to Avondale was hard to take as it was for sure a possible relegation saver. You might see a new name at the bottom there, I had had a transfer agreed to Donaghey on an amateur deal from a lower league side. He fired a hat trick in his first game and became our 2nd leading scorer on the year after one game.

I also signed this guy:

wanted a good passer so whatever. Kind of expensive per week, but I got rid of Liam Mailey on a free so it offsets the cost. Here's the table.

0b783db9c37e1e0f9f9a7854b4d44e81.png

This is actually very good. Leeds and us were predicted to finish bottom, Rockmount and Avondale predicted 10th and 11th. I'd say we are the most impressive just from this:

Our salary is barely more than 1/3rd of the next smallest club, yet we are still looking like we can stay up. Maybe this will get our reputation up and we can get some loanees next year; right now even players from our own division who are not being used refuse to join us, sad face. Go Cockhill.

Well here's the thing, last year there were 11 teams in the First Division with no relegation, 2 teams went up. The 4 bottom teams were added and it expanded to 13 with the bottom team going down, so the 4 of us are miles behind the rest.

Lots of losses. The last game was a heartbreak as an own goal saw us drop a spot on the table.

Stayed up, and I signed an extension. Still hoping someone will pluck me from this hellhole but until then I'll be the king of Cockhill.

If I see someone with an 11 in any attribute, chances are they are better than the guy I'm playing lol

CMU I admire anyone managing in the shit british leagues (Both Irelands, Wales, Scotland at a push :ninja: )

Some of your results are terrible, but you did well to stay up, and you have kept your wages in good check. Has your financial situation improved at all?

Been a while since I posted in here, but it takes quite a while to get through a season when its 48 games long :D

25253077bdb061f5b0cca6aba22199af.png9271a3892effc198af5dbeeae48174b4.png

it may not look it, but I think the team is much better than last season. This is actually pretty impressive considering we are almost entirely an amateur outfit now. Here are the guys who have been the best so far:

GK: Anto Knight- was the backup last season, but i play based on stats, not attributes, and he's been the best

DL: Gus James- DC last year, but has been our best DL this year. Crazy

DCL: Zak Farr- New guy, he's been pretty good.

DC: Jason Bruce- Also new, been ok but gets replaced quite a bit

DCR: Darren McElroy- Impressive this season

MCL: Eoin Wolfe- Scored a scorcher in his only league goal this year

MC: Daniel Bannister- Free from Northampton, pretty solid player for us

MCR: Cliff Patterson- Still here, he's improved his average rating since last year

STCL: Daniel McGuinness- Our ONLY player who is not on an amateur contract, I needed a consistent scorer and he's produced to this point.

STCR: Fergus Quinn- Not naturally a striker but has played well there. Might be replaced though.

other mentions:

MC: Raymond McGlone- Made 0 appearances for us last year and is rated as our worst player (4 silver stars) by my assistant but has played quite well surprisingly.

MC: Gerard McConnell- Good but he's been injured. Teams have bid for him so he might be gone.

MC: Liam Purcell- Brought him in from Douglas Hall after playing him twice. Decent.

MC: Michael Hyland- Free from Southend, might be decent, idk.

ST: Adeoye Yusuff- Promising looking attributes, hope he becomes a solid second striker

So my wages are going mostly to my two scouts (both £65 p/w) and McGuinness is getting £75 p/w. We are still managing to stay afloat:

lets hold on to that spot, lol. Bray is getting close to firing their manager, I hope they do and approach me tbh.

Love stories like this tbh, Cockhill are quite clearly punching above they're weight already, so staying up is a good performance.

We lost a lot of games, and guess what? Leeds have 4 points from the last 2 games.

should be a fun final game.
